Privacy policy
Privacy
What happens to your data when you visit this website and use the Picolate app.
1. Controller
The controller for data processing on this website is the provider named in the legal notice. For privacy questions, reach us at info@picolate.com.
2. Server log files
When you visit this website, the hosting provider Strato AG, Berlin, automatically processes information transmitted by your browser: IP address, date and time of access, page requested, browser type and operating system. This data serves solely the secure and stable operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and is not merged with other data sources.
3. Waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store your email address to notify you once about the release of Picolate on the App Store. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time — an informal email to info@picolate.com is enough; your address will then be deleted promptly.
4. Contact by email
If you contact us by email, we process your details to handle the request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR). The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for this purpose and no statutory retention obligations apply.
5. Fonts (Google Fonts)
This website embeds its fonts locally (self-hosted via Next.js) — no connections to Google servers are established and no data is transmitted to Google when the page loads.
6. Web analytics (Umami)
We measure how this website is used with Umami, a privacy-friendly open-source analytics tool that we run ourselves on our server in Germany — no data is passed to third parties. Umami sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses; it only records aggregated information such as pages visited, referring site, browser, device type, country and language. No usage profiles are created and there is no cross-site tracking. A successful waitlist signup is also counted only as an anonymous event — without your email address. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in privacy-preserving reach measurement (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. The Picolate app
Picolate is built so your party stays private:
- Shots are uploaded to the event gallery on our server in Germany (EU) — this is an integral part of the feature. The gallery can only be reached via the event link together with a PIN, cannot be found publicly, and is deleted automatically after 7 or 30 days depending on the chosen design.
- From the gallery, each guest decides for themselves where to download or forward their shot.
- To improve Picolate, we count on our server how often an event gallery is opened. We store neither IP addresses nor browser data; the gallery link is only recorded as a shortened, pseudonymous checksum from which neither the link nor individual guests can be reconstructed. These counts are deleted automatically after 90 days (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- To help us improve Picolate, the app records anonymous usage statistics — such as which setup steps are reached, whether a capture succeeds and whether a purchase is completed. For this the app generates a random identifier on first launch that identifies neither you nor your device and is never linked to personal data; we do not use Apple’s advertising ID. The contents of your captures and any free-text entries such as the occasion name are never transmitted. This data is also held on our server in Germany (EU), is not shared with third parties and is deleted after 90 days (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
8. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure and restriction of the processing of your data, as well as to data portability (Art. 15–20 GDPR). You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
